I am posting this for 2 reasons. 1, to share what my hens WON'T do and 2, to see if someone can use this.

My hens are Dainty . As in they are not rough at all when it comes to drinking the very bottom of the cup. They WILL drink out of it and beak along the side of the yellow tab when there is water IN it. But once it gets towards the bottom they just don't 'play' with it like I have seen in videos.
Now I know there are people that use these and they ARE really good when they work. This WORKS but my hens won't push the yellow tab off to the side to get the water to flow............. Well, one will but that won't work for them all.

Well I tried, I really did. Even took out the other small water thing. nope they were not having it and I didn't want them to not drink !!

So while at TSC this weekend I bought this https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/harris-farms-poultry-drinker-1-gal-capacity They are happy and drinking. It is a bit hard to put the bottom on, they should have made it with a FLAT top. That way you can turn it upside down, fill it and put the bottom part on. Then turn it over and hang. Mine is on blocks, not hanging though.

I live in Massachusetts is someone can use this that would be great. I posted it on the MA section but i don't think many people see it. YOU HAVE TO PICK IT UP, I AM NOT SHIPPING.

Wish I was closer :( I bought that waterer from TSC first. The bottom will loosen up after a few times. I put a little bit of water based lube on the little groves to help the first time. I would like to try those little cups some day as it is difficult to keep the one from TSC clean.

have you decided what to use now? I use Horizontal nipples in 5 gallon buckets I love no dirt and they cannot poop in it these are the nipples that go in side give me you address in a pm and i will send you 4 just because I can

@penny1960 If they didn't get the cups, there is no way they will get the nipples.
I will just use the one I linked in the 1st post and change water every day in the Winter
:barnie

@Enchanted1s I have mine up on 2 cinder blocks. It keeps most shavings out as mine is inside the coop. I am thinking of putting a thin 1/2 cinder block as a step for them and maybe they will get even less shavings in the new TSC one.

my 4 yr old I took 2 put the beak to them all others followed did the same when picked up more then again with new coop and purchase of Silkies even my week old marans bout at a feed store put 2 beaks to the nipple they are all doing it now

How long did you give them?
Some get it in an hour, some will take a couple weeks.
Tho the cups won't cut it in MA winters.
Start them on Horizontal nipples now and they'll be ready once the cold really sets n.

I use plain old aquarium heaters on the buckets in the winter here had them freeze the first year I even start 1 day old on nipples... I push the button dipping their little beaks in then anytime I fill the buckets I push each nipple to prime them putting them on cinder blocks

I gave them a few weeks. There is no other way to say it but Dainty. Only one would push the yellow thing over but only if another hen was also drinking in the same cup . They drank out of it if it was full.
The levers work but mine hens are not peckers.
The nipples would freeze here too so

it's ok, I have the other waterer so it is what it is. but thanks
I just wanted to see if someone else could use the cups that was local and that not all hens are peckers :lau
