That is what I would expect. If the ad says "Barnyard Mix" it indicates to me that the birds are not necessarily separated by breed or variety, and expecting them to match breed or variety standards is inappropriate. It does sound like they were being honest; but you misunderstood the ad. This is why asking very specific questions is always a good idea.
