We are the opposite here...
Everything is a rooster until it lays an egg! Or, guilty until proven innocent. A lot less disappointment that way.
Actually I have a barred rock hen that crows...
yep, she's laid eggs. She's one of my favorite hens. Started a little after 2 years old I think. Hens can even grow spurs. Some breed roosters are hen feathered (Seabrites). I haven't YET seen a hen or pullet grow pointed saddle feathers. I have heard a rooster sing the egg song when startled or along with the hens. And I've seen them search out nest boxes and call chicks to treats... but no eggs from them yet.
