Hello everyone! I am wondering if you think "Flower" our 5 week old Light Brahma is roo? Thank you for your help!

no idea. probably a girl, because a comb would be their, and would already be very large.

hard to say at 5 weeks with the comb. I dont have light but with buffs the roos tend to have a bare back where there pointed saddle feathers havent come in yet, while the pullets tend to have a fully feathered back and a tail which is more of a lobster tail at that age( I mean the pullet tail is fully feathered and starts much further up the back and slopes donwwards off the but.) the roos usuallt have a sprightly little tail which sticks up right above there butt and has bare back in front of it.

How do you know? Not trying to be a pain, but I can't determine with my light brahmas. I can with other breeds by comb, tail, or color, but those little guys are tough.

I can say that the dark brahma is a pullet, due to the feather pattern.

Hope it goes well, they are very cute.

I can't say pullet or cockerel at this point. Brahmas are slow to mature and often times take a lot longer to gender identify. I have a Brahma roo that I thought was a hen until it crowed at 24 weeks and started going after the hens a few days later.

Phew! I know we won't know for sure for a while (24 weeks? Wow!) I'm just glad no one sees anything that screams rooster. Thank you so much!

If i had to guess right now I would say it's a roo. But thats just a nagging hunch, complete guess due to comb.

But it's WAY to early to tell. I have 6 month old brahmas that I thought were hens, and I just found out yesterday one is a rooster.

People who keep saying pullet. I hate to tell you this. But brahmas get no comb at all for a long long time. Even the roos. So it could go either way.

Your just going to have to way and try again in a few weeks.

Crossing my fingers it's a pullet for you, but I have my doubts.
