5 week old with HUGE CROP

Is waffles an Amber link? She’s beautiful! And I do see it....ours name is Popcorn. And I’ve been calling her busty. Lol. I will Try. We do massage it a lot and try to make her throw up How long does it usually take? Maybe I’m not doing it long enough?
Depends how bad it is, sometimes she will fall down and the vomit will just leak from her mouth other times it take a minute of massaging before the vomit comes up. Even if there’s now vomit massaging helps break it up and makes it easier to pass down. Also popcorn is adorable and I hope she feels better!!! Also Waffles is a sexlinks

I'm guessing that this chick could have an impacted gizzard that's backing up into her crop, not permitting the crop to empty. Treating a gizzard is a lot trickier than treating the crop, and honestly, it doesn't always work. But I suggest you try.

Do you have molasses? A narrow oral syringe? It may be time to try a molasses flush to get the gizzard moving. One teaspoon molasses mix into one-fourth cup warm water. Then give it to her with the syringe.

An easy method is directly into the esophagus which will get it into the crop without it going all over the chick and you. The esophagus is located on the chick's right side of its throat. The airway is in the center. Putting the syringe directly into the esophagus avoids the risk of getting liquid into the airway and having your chick choke to death. But be careful no to overfill the crop. Doing this in several phases an hour apart is best. Here's a picture of what you'll be doing:

Thank you so much! We lost one of our oldest hens last week from what I believe Was sour crop. I didn't Know what to do and she couldn’t breathe. We all cried like babies. I cant Take the heartache!

I would check with the others but the books always say that you should make her vomit.
NO......do not 'vomit' a chicken.
They can aspirate the fluid from the crop into their lungs and die.

Yes, as @Kiki says, not a good idea to make a chick regurgitate.
I would be very careful with turning her upside down and massaging the crop. Chickens can breathe in the fluid and die very easily.

I would Be terrified to do that. I believe That’s what happened to our sweet older hen last week. She was leaking from her mouth and I was terrified. I held Her so that she could empty it out but apparently not good enough and she dies in my arms. So very traumatic for me and the kids 😭

Did she die right after attempting to empty her crop or later? If right after then it could have been because she aspirated the fluid. Of course, you say she is 'older' so she might have had some underlying issue. Sorry for your loss.

:goodpost: That sounds very plausible @azygous, and the information you provided is great! Always learning on here.

She died on my lap. I don't Think I held Her upside down long enough and I think She aspirated. By older...I meant 2 years old. She was part of our first chickens we got. We all loved her so much. She was perfectly fine the day before and she was leaking from her beak and her vent.

One of my chicks died this pas week dew to her crop. She wasn’t able to absorb nutrients. Also her crop could not empty. Wish I could help, but I say to spent lots of third with her. Also my girl seemed more cheerful and active when I give her yogurt. I had to make my girl puke to help her breath. She used to just have stuff come out of her mouth.
