X :) unfortunately a cat managed to kill on of my quail last night pulled its head off through the bars sooo sad my poor monster I have put temporary nettin over them tonight till I can sort out something more permanent ! how many quails do you have in your run. do you keep males in with the girls.
i really like your setup and i would love to buy an Eglu but they are so expensive. i have two arks for my males to live in at the moment with the others in a 5ft pen my hubby made. i am still trying to find out what sex they are, i took out the white male as he was crowing but no others as yet, so out of 18 i am going to have more than one that is for sure, i put 2 others in the run with him so he won't be lonely but i think they are girls. hope the other quails are not to stressed.

I cant wait for the year 2050 when the birds mutate and start laying a week after birth (not mocking). Those birds mature so fast its unbelievable.

i can't believe that they go from hatching to laying in 5 weeks just brilliant.
i didn't get any eggs today tho.
i gave them conifer branches and they go mad for it, they all sit under the branches, so sweet.

That's the main reason why coturnix are so popular for meat birds...they fully mature by 8 weeks at the latest. Now, if you want fertile eggs, you may want to wait longer, but if they're eating eggs, bon apetite!
