We have a 5 week old pullet that got attacked by a hawk 3 days ago, minor lacerations on back. We are treating with veterycin, gave extra protein, husband has been giving nutrients. Today we noticed she has a prolapsed vent (possibly too much protein?!) We are using antibiotic ointment, prep h and hydrocortisone ointment. I wash my hands and push it back in (bright red like internal tissue). It has came out about 10 times in the last 3 hours. No food or water, any other recommendations? I'm worried about her. TIA

Please explain what you mean by "no food or water".

Did you treat for shock? If not, you must treat for it now. Shock lasts far beyond the initial attack and can kill. It slows down blood supply to the organs and probably that is causing constipation and interruption of digestion.

You will need to syringe fluids. Prepare one cup warm water with one teaspoon sugar and a pinch of salt and baking soda and syringe it into the crop in the manner you see in the photo attached. Feel the crop as you put the solution into the crop and don't overfill. Give these feedings every hour for the next two days.

Next, you will need to treat for constipation although the sugar water will help. Take a teaspoon of coconut oil, the solid kind, not liquid, divide it into pea-size pieces, freeze, and then insert each piece into the chick's beak. She will swallow them easily. Get all of them into her. This should help her poop and should fix the prolapse.

This is amazing info!! She has no problem pooping, I think it's the opposite, prolapse from diarrhea?? My husband has been feeding her worms and poultry cell the granules. I gave her a drop of nutridrench on Friday afternoon when it happened. What can we do to fix the diarrhea (formed, but like she has hyperactive bowels). Thank you so much

This is her current set up, next to me under a warm cover

Is she getting chick grit? If not, find some gravel that is the size of sand and offer it alongside her food. Crush a probiotic tablet and mix it into a soft boiled egg. Boil some rice and offer her that. These can help with loose stools.

Thank you for the information. I have some human probiotics that I can give her a little of and have rice I can boil now🫶🐥☺️
