Pellets are better for them, less fat. It also means they may eat more to feel full but in the end it is better for them. You should go by condition, not necessarily weight on a bird. All mine have full crops at night. That's normal.
You can feed everyone a non medicated grower or an All Flock ration with a separate bowl of oyster shells for the calcium needs. That extra calcium is hard on non laying birds.I still have almost 2 year old hens so it's kind of hard with feed I get nuterna layer pellets they never really ate oyster shells when they were younger they don't like moving that much I understand it takes a while for them to lose weight but they are moving more then usual which is good what feed would I need to change to that is better for them
