Mine are supposed to come to day.

The Red Bro is the "Red Ranger" the Freedom Ranger people use to sell. They are developed for a free range environment for the "Poulet Rouge" scheme in the EU.

How do they compare? Greater vigor, disease resistance, slightly slower growth.

Just like with the Freedom Rangers, you can process them at 8 weeks, but they will be a pound or two smaller than a jumbo Cornish Cross would be. I've been doing my at 9 weeks, but this varies with the weather as they grow slower when it's wet and cold.

I process all my Freedom Rangers (which are identical to Red Bro) when the largest in the pen is 10 lbs live weight. This yields the largest birds dressed at 6 lbs or so with some down to 3.5 range.

Just like anyother chicken. Roughly 2/3 live weight.

Depends how big you want to grow them and how long you keep them! So, pick the ideal live weight you want for your birds to grow to. Then, multiply each pound by 3 (i.e. the feed conversion ratio).

So, 30 lbs of feed to get a broiler to 10 lbs live weight. In actuality, the FCR of broilers is under 2.5, but 3.0 gives you some wiggle room if you miss your processing date.

Should be far far better than Cornish Crosses. Again, these birds are Freedom Rangers under a different name.... well, actually, Freedom Rangers were Red Bro's under a different name.

Feed broiler starter/finisher from day 1 to day final. Keep them out of the wind or too hot of sun. But, they will thrive on grass and actually make use of any free range opportunity you give them (rather than just like around the food bowl all day). Also, they are pretty birds. I'm proud to have them around, unlike bald little Cornish Crosses.

Thanks Sonja for posting this question. I ordered some Red-Bro chickens and was wondering the same thing.

Hi, I purchased 30 red broilers from Ideal - 2 passed away on day 3 - the other 28 are 7 weeks old now and growing daily! I have been extremely pleased, as this is my first time with chickens, and have had no problems. I am figuring that at 10 weeks they should dress out at 4-8 lbs each - at a cost (purchase, feed, lights - but not the coop, as we will be using it for the other 12 layers that we got at the same time ) of about $2.00 per lb. including processing at $2.25 each. we have them in a coop with a 25 x 12ft run, and I throw cracked corn and tall grasses in the run to them morning and night plus their feed. they are not as active as the eggers, but run around quite a bit.
it is working for me.
I think that I will get them again, instead of the cornish x, as it sounds like they may be a bit harder to raise.

Have a great Memorial Day weekend!!

Ideal won't really clarify this for me, but I'm not sure the Ideal Red Broilers are the same as the Red Bro's. Maybe they are, but they wont' say either way.
