5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

They are small house them in small areas .. Cots lay a crap load of eggs a yr and they are mature for the frying pan @ about 6 weeks plus..Quick turn around on the Cot<<<

Do you happen to have a pic of what they look like after processed and cooked? Do they taste good? They might be what I add to the farm this spring, maybe Im still debating. I love the idea of a quick return. The eggs are like tiny pieces of art and I love the idea of a tiny birds served on individual plates for holidays.

Hi, everyone! I'm fairly new here although I've been stalking the forums for a while. Count me in for the Hatch-A-Long. I just had approximately 75 new quail chicks hatch so my incubator will good to go again this Saturday. Not sure how many eggs I'll set this time but I'll figure that out when I get home today. Work keeps getting in the way of my hobbies.

I think it's a learning experience for all of us (most of us?) and EVERYbody loves sharing the knowledge they have.

I never would have thought I'd be on an internet forum sharing ideas and thoughts about chickens, hatching and incubators.. but here I am..
yeah its definitely a learning experience for me!! If you told me 6 months ago that i would be incubating eggs, have chickens, and on this internet forum, i would have said you are crazy! but here i am going outside every morning at 630 in 17 F weather and about to hatch some eggs for the first time! I have had my chickens for a short time but i already love them and couldnt be happier with my decision to get chickens:) im even out there for a few hours every day in freezing cold wind and rain just so i can supervise while my girls get some free range time :)

it really is!! my aunt has always had chickens (until the predators won) and my neighbors have had chickens for a few years now, but it really took me until i had my own that i was solely responsible for, to really appreciate them. now i sit outside for hours on my days off just watching them :)

Woot woot! 28 eggs set at 7:15am this morning (had to work today). Will post a pic when i get home tonight.

i may end up setting on time!!! depending if i should let them rest or not :) my camera did not do the color justice! they are beautiful eggs :)

Awesome!!. If you can candle them and the air cell looks intact at the large end, I'd put them in the hot incubator and start turning tomorrow.

oh also is there a certain way to orient the eggs in the incubator? like all clustered in the middle? around the edge? my temp seems to be consistent throughout
