5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

So happy for you! I would not want to be without heat! Can you imagine that family that was lost in the mountains in Nevada? They were so smart to use heated rocks to stay warm. Kept a fire gong in a tire. Wow.
Going to keep trying to ... catch up now! Maybe you will have your photo of your eggs by the time I get through all of thii
i live 3hrs from where family got lost it has been -20 or more

Holy cow (chicken?)! Offline for just a few hours and come back to 5 new pages. As much as I'd love to see every post, there's no way! :cd
So excited to see the motherload of chick pics come NYD! :jumpy

Will my eggs be okay? I set yesterday at 1.15pm and sometime during the night the light bulb (brand new one) went out. The temperature when I woke up at 6am was 23 degr. Celcius, which is about 60 degr Fahrenheit. I changed the light bulb immediately and the temps stabilized quickly, turned eggs at 7am and all running again. Hope they didn't die?

I am in total awe! We are Day 5 today, and just candled. I have 21 eggs from DMRippy and 11 of our own (which have been 100% fertile for 2 months). The shipping box was smashed in two corners, but her fabulous magic sticky bubble wrap saved these babies...because her eggs are doing better than my fresher, non-shipped eggs!!! My two green eggs are great, but not all my browns.

Of course I can't see into the 9 shipped Marans, but of 12 CCL/super blue layers...at least 8 had the cutest ever chickie embryos with dark eyes and veins everywhere.

I set 11 purebred SFH eggs from my flock this morning a little before noon (my iPad was out of juice, so I did not get a photo but will tomorrow) since we had some errands, and all was well. Bator had been running perfectly in the closet, maintaining temperature just fine. Came home this evening, and the temp had spiked to 104. UGH. It was probably related to the heater coming on -- we have it set to come on twice a day, same times, and it keeps the house reasonable -- but gosh....why didn't it do this over the weekend versus only now when the eggs went in the bator! I was so irritated. Now I'm remembering why I quit hatching when the heater or AC get turned on.

Hope they do OK. A few of my other hatches have had temperature spikes and done OK, but none so early.

It's fine now. Humidity is slightly low, which is funny considering our current weather, but it will work out.

I woke up to my bedroom 1 degree cooler, so it's normally 71, and this a.m. it was 70. Bator was at 97 in one corner, ugh! I'm not touching it though, I know in a bit the house will get back up to normal. So, I plugged a hole. Hope your eggs are all okay, I'll bet they are fine!

I know, I went to the movies and came back to about 7 pages behind. I'm trying to read them all to, and hubby looks at me like I'm crazy. The day of skimming is coming though, lol!
