5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

You know, I was thinking that it would be neat if Ron, or someone who wouldn't mind doing it, would list all the BYC members participating in the NYD hatch, where they live, the breeds and numbers of chicks hatched, so if there are people that wanted chicks they could contact that person and buy locally :highfive:
I think that is a brilliant idea. Ron is cool enough that I know he'd love to do it (wink wink).

I'm near Keene, NH and will have EE & OE chicks!
Where is Keene? I'm over by Conway.

Those are going to be some gorgeous olive green eggs (if you get hens in your F2

.)

I am so hoping for eggs as pretty as those. My four marans eggs had either a CCL or an Ameraucana roo over them so I'm hoping for some beautiful olive eggs.

Thanks. Im very happy with the color of my F1 pullets eggs. I have another F1 OE nearing point of lay(cant wait to see her egg). And I hope that the eggs in the bator hatch pullets also. I need to keep at least one to raise it up to know what color the F2 generation of chicks will be laying.

Pyxis I hope you get some beautiful Olive eggs from your chicks

Ok so I have brown egg layers a white egg layer and a maran. My rooster is ameraucana. Now olive eggers would be considered my maran with him or would I need maran with him then the off spring hen with a brown gene rooster? I call them all ee's just some are different shades lol. Except pure breeds.

I called about some ameraucana's when I was in Rochester yesterday to see if they was pure breed or EE's. They told me ""they are ameraucana if your looking for pure breeds those are called "wheaten ameraucana or blue ameraucana"" I didnt know what to say. Sorta like people adding an i in the name saying pure breed. I was wanting to try for some bbs ameraucana's so i could get some pure breeds going but wasn't going to drive an extra hour away when it seemed like they was selling ee's as ameraucana's.

The easiest way to make it clear when you are looking for purebreds is to ask for show stock. If it is a mixed color flock of Ameraucanas the offspring will not be showable because their color genes will be mixed up. Some people who don't show may not realize that that makes a difference. Some of us on the Ameraucana thread were arguing for the distinction between between mixed colored Ameraucana EE's and EE's that have brown egg genes. If you are wanting to develop an new color you would want to draw from Am EE's instead of EE's that have the brown egg genes. It is very confusing for most people. That little bit of spelling difference means so much.

Being a former NHrite.. Keene is South West corner.. kind of separated from the rest of the state by a small mountain range. About as far from Conway as you can get and still be in NH.

I will set up a poll and those that want to add information to it can. I will figure out a way to get it published.

Chickee
He is from cheep chicks farms, hatching eggs, I hatched him. He got best of breed and best of variety in the Virginia poultry breeders association show a few weeks ago.
No eggs from him this time, the girls have just finished molting and not laying until the days start to get longer. They are on strike. I have a few of his chicks in the brooder from a few weeks ago.
I keep telling all my chickens that are on strike that I as there feeder am going to go on strike if they don't start laying soon. :barnie
They just give me that look... :love
