5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

You could follow the theme and name him Loki.

He looks very nice.

No Loki, THOR!!! Haha!! Loki's a bad guy I think...isn't he? No bad guy names for my new boy...he's just too sweet...but Thor will work! Thank you so much, I wouldn't have thought of the name if you hadn't suggested Loki!

Loki is the Norse God of Mischief so a fun bad Guy.

Thor would be a very good name for him.

Will you have to turn the ones stacked on top? I have that hovabator and egg turner and will have more eggs then the 42 spots, not sure about stacking?

Regardless of where they are they need to turn.

You'll have to determine if they' are getting turned sufficiently by marking them.
The danger in stacking is if it is a still air incubator.

Someone was talking about grit. In the summer we will use chicken coop cleanings to liquid fertilizer tomatoes. We let it soak in buckets for a day the dilute it and apply. At the bottom of the buckets it always surprises me how much sand and grit is in them when we clean up. If you wanted to check if they are getting enough grit this is w good way. Water it all down and do a fecal analysis. May be a little to hands on for some. The smell is on the hands for a little while.lol

I just got my new cockerel today...Zeus took the bus to freezer camp. He is so pretty...a Chocolate Orpington...love him!

Took my mom with me, she ended up bringing home a cockerel of her own! His father is an Americauna and the mama is one of the dorkings or orpingtons...can't remember what she said. He's an Easter Egger, regardless!

Can't wait till I get them integrated with my girls (splitting into two separate flocks) and Zeus' sqiggly tadpoles are out of their systems...I'm gonna have PURDY babies!!! Impatient now for my next hatch!!!

My new cockerel...haven't named him yet:

My mom's new boy:

They are both gorgeous, but I have to admit I'm in LOVE with your mom's new boy. He has the sweetest face!

Woo Hoo - finely got a light that I can see veins with!!

So, of course I had to candle my ? eggs. There were 7, 5 of those I can now see veins and movement even the green one. The other two are clear.

So of 29 eggs set I have 27 wiggly little chickies growing! Someone good with numbers please help me figure percentage I'm thinking like 93%, please let me know if this is wrong.

Your mom's boy is hot! So puffy. I agree not to name your chickens after mischief. We usually let them name themselves but it can take a while.

I just answered this question on facebook! I don't worry for the first 7 days. I then turn the incubator rather then opening up and hand turning untill day 10. Then I pull clears and usually you can fit them in the regular turner. If not I would hand turn 1×a day they turn some but not totally when they are Tetrusing stacked. OR take the turner out and put them in egg cartons and hand turn to whole bator 3x a day. More fit in egg cartons. I have gotten 48 plus 2 rows that way.
