This chick had no chance. There was way too much that should have been inside, outside its body with active (bright red) bleeding, loss of quite a bit of yolk, labored breathing. I have never seen that much liquid show up inside a shell after being half zipped - the first stage of zip seemed to go perfectly, then all of a sudden it just went horribly wrong. It was floating in yolk and blood by the time I took it out. Very sad, but sometimes things go wrong. I agree it surely could be an incubation problem.
My first hatch to be successful![/URL]![]()
I feel better now! I like Ornery chickens..It isn't sorry. Tolbunt polish! Ornery too!
My hatch as three pips but not much action.Come on, ya'll...I wanna see more baby pics!!! It's all I've got to break this BOREDOM of my eggs not doing a daggone thing but rock!!!
I think I've decided to try hatching ducks this spring...hoping I can find someone around where I live with fertile eggs...I checked some online hatcheries, and the eggs are so darn expensive, I can't fathom spending that kind of money!
But...before the duckies...my countdown is underway for eggs fertilized by my mom's new roo...EE...only have a week and a half left to wait...hoping Zeus' sperm makes a quick exit outta the girls' systems!!! Can't wait to try to hatch some of those...EE over BR and Commercial Blacks...
Then there's my Choc. Orpington bantam boy...he's got himself a new lady just like him...she hasn't started laying yet, but when she does I'm gonna try to hatch some...baby Chocolate Orpington bantams...I hope they're as adorable as I imagine they are!!!
BUT IN THE MEANTIME, lemme see some more pics of those fluffy butts!!!![]()

Sounds more like the chick accidently broke it's own yolk sac. It happens occasionally. They snag it with their claws while turning in the shell. Nothing can be done about it just like nothing can be done when they pip through a vein & bleed out inside the shell. I have had both happen. Thankfully, neither is a common occurrence. If you hatch enough you will eventually encounter these issues.
It is hard to say. Where they shipped? Incubation is one of the three things we can control. Shipping and Breeder care are out of our control for shipped eggs.
Sorry about that one!
