5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

Picture of me with Early Bird. He/She spent most of a day alone watching people through the hatcher window and I think has imprinted on people. Constantly wants out to sit on me.

My final total is 4 chicks from 7 eggs set. 3 were infertile.

Look at this little one's red head and white body. Soooo cute! Red Sex link hen crossed with a Silkie roo

Another RSL x Silkie:
Oh they are so cute! The egg we have in the bator is a RSLxSilkie and the roo is technically a Partridge I guess. But mostly he just looks like a blue..........I can't wait to see if this baby hatches! Yours are adorable!

WOW, what a long day. Have 9 in the brooder - which is now in the basement, (been five years since I did that - is that long enough to count as"never again?")
Three definite quitters, one of which wasn't going into lockdown, but moved... then rocked for half a day, then... :( . Of the four left, none are pipped internally. One is pushing internal membrane up into the air cell, but the bump is much rounder than it should be, and I'm wondering if it's a foot. At this moment, it's definitely alive, anyway. On the other end of the spectrum is one that looks like it *may* have quit, but the shells are so thick it's really hard to tell - I can convince myself there's movement if I try... The other two are between those extremes.
I have to go down and move DC hens into the breeding pen (easier while they sleep!) and I'm planning to float test those last three when I get back unless someone yells "DON'T!"

This is the current state of affairs:

Well, not really - at this moment, they're sleeping... and it's very, very quiet!

I decided to candle my remaining eggs when I got home. Glad I did! I had a SFH trying to come out on the wrong end. It's peeping away. I pulled a little bit of shell away and layed it down. Fingers crossed it pops out. Two more are peeping but not pipped yet.

Aww, that little one loves it's people!

I have 2 more out, one with help (had feet in air cell) the other on its own. Some how I miss counted and a fifth egg showed up in all the fuzz. Three to go
