5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

I just got woken up by lots of peeping so I had to check it out. I have 3 more chicks hatched. So I have a total of 5 chicks and 1 pip so far.

1 BCM
1 OE
3 Silkies
1 Silkie pip

with 15 more eggs to go

This little one has been zipped like this for around 6 hours now. Wildly moving about and loudly peeping. Is it stuck or just still absorbing the yolk?
I think it's probably stuck. I've never had one that zipped for 6 hours. If they're zipping, the yolk and vessels should be absorbed and the chick is ready to come out. Me personally, I'd help that one out :x

Thanks for the response Avlana. I had to assist 2 out, the first was obviously zipped but the second one simply looked pipped until I turned it around and saw it was also zipped. The membranes were like dried glue stuck to them and I got them out. They are back in the incubator to dry - I hope they'll be okay

I hope your babies are doing well.

Good Morning Everyone. I hope all the hatching are coming along well.

Today is going to be a freezing cold snowy day here in New England. We are expected to get 15-18 inches of snow and the temps with the windchill down to -25 BUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRR. Today was the kids first day back to school after vaca but they got lucky and got a snow day.

Its gonna be so cold I think Im going to go to the pet store and buy my goats some dog sweaters. The goats are Nigerian dwarfs and haven't been in this cold of weather yet so Im nervous for them. I might even bring them into the garage.

I hope everyone and their pets do well and stay warm on this cold and snowy day

Yeah my little guy got a little shrink wrapped too. I had noticed he looked a little bit like his fluff was drying up by the hole( didn't get much of a zip done just a big whole ). Figured that wasn't good so I started taking shell/membrane off and the membrane was stuck to a good portion of his back. He's all cleaned up now. Hopefully he's alright because I think his mom is my Aldrich line hen. Who decided she's done laying for the moment. Egg strikes

Your goats will be fine. Just give them plenty of hay and make sure the barn isn't drafty. My two have been fine so far.
