5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

Today my birds are NOT HAPPY!! Yesterday afternoon my prized, dearly loved rooster, Spike came about 1 foot away from being a hawks dinner. The hawk was half his size and came down talons extended about 1 foot above his back before Spike made it to me, and the porch. So, today lockdown has begun for an undetermined amount of time. The upswing, now I'll get to see for sure if they really aren't laying, or just hiding some eggs from me!

Thanks Ron for the TJ egg idea!

I would still have to have them shipped to me but much better than subjecting good eggs to the cold and long distance shipping. I may still be able to join in here.

Ask your local grocery store if they can get fertile eggs for you? Or put an eggs wanted on craigslist? I'm not sure how fertile ts eggs would ship.

I have checked for fertile eggs locally, you folks in Nor Cal are my closest option. I'm only getting 1 fertilized egg a day from the wyandottes, not much to hatch there.

I get both extremes here, lucky me. 100+ in the summer, right now it is in the low 20's, everything is frozen solid. I have to have 2 waterers for each pen or pack them all into the garage or laundry room at night. When I got my last eggs shipped to me in August it was 108°.
