I was going to do this hatch along because the last batch of eggs i ordered had many broken ones and quitters due to a postal mishap. I incubated the ones that were not cracked. some developed but out of 20 non cracked eggs only 5 made it to lock down. I was so excited when one pipped Sunday but completely disheartened when I found it dead 5 hours later. Today is day 22 and I doubt the remaining 4 will do anything but I still plan on leaving them in there. It sounds crazy but i am so emotionally drained I am not sure that I want to hatch eggs again ever. At least not any shipped eggs. My first hatch of shipped eggs went so well... I dunno getthing fertile eggs from the store sounds kinda fun. thanks for listening

Hugs to you Annette! I can relate... As I just did my first hatch this last month and everything was perfect up until hatch day. All chicks developed perfectly, but at hatch day not even one pip and they all died. Not sure what went wrong, but I'm going to try again and join in the hatch-a-long.

Oh darn, that stinks. I am sorry to hear this.

I hope you do try again in the future. Not sure what went wrong for you. Work on calibrating your incubator, temp. and humidity maybe?

I'm so sorry you had such a bad experience.

I have found so far that hatching is VERY emotionally draining, even when it goes pretty well. I hope some of them are just lazy lil' things and go ahead and come out late for you.

I hope this one goes much much better. It is harder to take when they fully develop and then die than if they just quit early. It is for me at any rate. The more they grow and develop the more I get invested in them. I just got done with ancona duck eggs. I only bought 3 and all 3 developed and were very active and seemed strong. Then right before hatch, when they were turning one tore the blood vessels in it's membrane somehow (with little claws I think) and it bled to death.

I think it was going to be a lavender or silver too.

But luckily the other two hatched and are alive. The second is weak but seems to be getting stronger every hour. Erm... I seem to be babbling. Don't mind me I tend to get punch drunk when I'm up all night helping a baby hatch.

watch the air cells. everyone making it to the end but not hatching is a possible humidity issue. Or at least an issue that can be helped with humidity. If the membrane streches and the chicks grow too fast you can try to keep them on track by fiddling with huimdity via air cells ( that one is better with air cells marking then weighing IMO) Its like a pregnant woman staying on the curve.

faerieannette ( I don't know why your post didn't quote!) try non shipped eggs! they will balm your heart a little wiht a better hatch rate. Its not an easy time of year for shiped eggs, with temps being low in a lot of places.

So what day is everyone hoping to receive their shipped eggs for the hatch? Friday/Saturday before, or Monday/Tuesday? If a warmer is included in the box, is it a big deal if they are enroute over the weekend? Trying to decide what day is best to ship eggs out to someone.
