5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

I am going to swap some of my Silkie eggs for barnyard mix with a fellow keeper here in CO - her eggs are beautiful colors, green. blue, and a range of browns, I am so excited! I have some of her eggs in my incubator right now, and they are just beautiful.

Dang, I wish I was eligible for this one!

I will set this one up for the Best Broody Chick Apartment/separate Housing contest.

....
NO. Please don't because I think I can win the best broody apartment idea w/pics. I don't want to send eggs to myself.

Offer the eggs in another contest.

I will get a different prize for that one.

Thanks again!

The sick ones should be Quarantined or culled. Send one in for a Necropsy. You live in Nevada, so I think UCD Charges around $90.00 for a Necropsy for you. There may be a State Agency in Nevada that will test one for you for free. Necropsy is free for us in California if we have less than 1000 chickens.

Once you have the report, you will be able to decide if you should cull the whole flock, treat them and or be able to hatch eggs from them. MG is transferred through the egg so not eggs. Other illnesses do not transfer so you can hatch eggs.

The symptoms you are seeing can also come from Ammonia build up.
MG/MS? What are those?

And ammonia build up? I sure hope not. I have a few gaps in there that can vent air, and seems to be doing well. I don't really notice it being super stinky in there or anything.......

Also, one other question... if i cull them, and they are carriers (or showing symptoms) are they safe to eat if we were to do that, or it is better not to? I'm new to this.

It probably is not Ammonia--it would sting your eyes.

MG and MS are Respiritory viruses. http://www.thepoultrysite.com/disea...ction-mg-chronic-respiratory-disease-chickens

There is a pull down menu next to the disease name to find MS.
