5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

sniff. Mail came. No eggs. This means they will arrive in the middle of the day when I am at work, and be set on my porch to freeze in this extreme cold spell we are having.

worry worry worry
Oh no! I hope they end up coming at a time when someone can get them in.

The ones tooo early for the hatch. They are Cochin bantams and 5 hatched yesterday, 6 today...I will be adding my standard size chicken eggs by the 11th for the hatch-a-long! Just had to show off my new babies!!!!

Sooooo cute!

Love those chipmunk stripes.

The obvious answer is to call in sick with the "chicken flu"

OK I need some help with making sure that my eggs will be okay to hatch.

This egg seemed very porous and I don't want it to affect my soon, hopefully babies. The egg is from my SLW.

Here is a better picture of one.

My question is is this bad and if so what do I do about it because I don't want to have to order any eggs?

I just had porous lav orpington eggs just like that. They hatched out just fine for me a week ago

Since they were porous, I didn't candle/handle them as often. I have an automated turner in my incubator. Apparently bacteria and humidity can be an issue. Though I didn't keep an eye on humidity and they still hatched fine (they were even shipped!).

Really? Why didn't I think of that? Then definitely will do easter, if I last that long...

. Hopefully I will have some room left, since as soon as I get a bator I'm going to be hatching out new chicks every week!

Great to see you here on BYC @bantambury
