my eggs are being shipped on tuesday, they are only comimg from a few states away so hopefully it will be an uneventful trip! so when I get the eggs candle them and then put them in an egg carton fat end up somewhere cool and let them rest for 24hrs? can i candle eggs with a bright flashlight? also I have a hovabator 1588 so I would appreciate suggestions

That is good news!

Let them warm up to room temp and incubate with the big end up without turning for 5 days.

Age is an enemy of shipped eggs so the sooner they begin incubating the better. Not turning them for 5 days lets them recover from shipping stress.

On a good note I checked tracking and my eggs finally arrived to my PO. I should be getting a call soon to go pick them up. On a not so good note my chickens just dont want to give me their eggs, and the few that got collected over the weekend by my DH got eaten since I wasnt home to stop him GRRRR...

Im also very excited to say that I shipped my first package of hatching eggs out to a fellow B YC member and they said they arrived safely and that I did a great job packing, Im very happy and now confident to start shipping out eggs come spring.

Other bad news is my pullet that is laying doesn't like boys and I noticed she won't let him, so my eggs are probably not fertile I will try anyways.

okay so i shouldnt let them sit for 24 hrs? If i have a turner in my incubator should i just get the turner straight and put them in it then plug in the turner on day 5? i appreciate all the help! I have a back up thermometer and i have a hydrometer coming in the mail. And i even got some aquarium tubing and my boyfriend said he will rig it for me so that during lock down i can add water without opening the incubator. Im so nervous and i keep looking at my incubator set up even tho its just sitting there and not even plugged in!

Woohoo !! Won both auctions. The bator is gonna be topped off this year. Seramas and Cochins both! Hoping to raise them and sell the eggs (for hatching). Maybe show the Cochins. :) soo excited!! Haha you should have seen me bouncing off the walls waiting for the second to bid. I swear I cleaned the incubator twenty times in anticipation. Jeez I'm helpless

:ya Congrats on the auction wins!!!!

Except I just did the math and I'm setting 27 eggs in a 22 egg incubator. Lol how small are serama eggs? Maybe I can make them fit lol

Sounds right.

I wasn't sure I was getting enough ventilation in my homemade incubator/hatcher monstrosity. I got an aquarium air pump with a splitter and pump air into both units.
