So now Im not sure what to do. I have 32 shipped eggs and 6 of my own. I didn't want to turn the turn on for a few days because of the shipped eggs. But I have no room to lay the other 6 down to manually turn them. I suppose the turner goes on and I hope for the best with the shipped eggs. Unless some one has a tip.

I understand, some do make your eyes go crossed. Most of the papers are meant to be shared by the scientific community.
At least someone is doing the research though. That's how the mysteries are solved. Even if that research is meant to benefit the commercial poultry market.

When I was in the Army they had a fool proof system of explaining/writing about things.

1. In the first paragraph you tell them what you are going to tell them (Outline the experiment and what the point of doing the experiment is.)

2. In the body of the document tell them. (Relate the detailed step by step set up and results of the experiment.)

3. Tell them what you told them. (Summerise the experiment and the results and what the application of the results are.)

In the middle get as technical as you want, but the first paragraph and the last should be aimed so that even though your audience's degree isn't in the field of the paper, the purpose of the experiment is clear. If for no other reason, it is easier to get money men to back you on further experimentation if you can sum it up at a college freshman level.

I am going to try the dipping by the way. Since I don't have Vitamin C, I am going to try it with the same percentage of vinegar (which does contain some vitamin C) and lemon juice. I will dip half in one and half in the other. Of course that won' leave a control group so I guess I should split the dozen eggs in thirds. By no means is that enough for a hard result but it may give me some indication and when I later have more eggs for a better sample size I can repeat the experiment. By then I can get some vitamin C and compare the 3 together. I'll have to work out how to get a precise % of solution without high tech stuff. Maybe I can find some litmus paper online.

I started the no turn for 7 days on shipped eggs after a few months of no hatches at all from shipped eggs. I followed the guidelines from this article and for over a year now I have had pretty good hatches from shipped eggs. Once I started using the "no turn" method my development rate increased tremendously. With over 100+ chickens now I think I've done pretty darn good using this method.

Agreed. What works for one person may not work for another.

I'm going to do it too, but only to about a quarter of the eggs. I'm setting around 40.
I'm going to split them up into groups based on egg age and sire. So I'll have a control. Still not thousands of eggs but I'm weird like that.
I have vitamin C but on my way to the drug store to see if they carry liquid ascorbic acid.

Thanks. I read your last post. My problem is 6 of the eggs are from my flock and require turning. I have room in my turner for all the eggs I set. I was just hoping to not turn the shipped eggs. I guess I could take the turner out and put the eggs in cartons for the next couple days and only tilt my 6 eggs daily and then put them all pack in the turner.

I guess I could take the turner out and put the eggs in cartons for the next couple days and only tilt my 6 eggs daily and then put them all pack in the turner.

Can you take the extra rails out of the turner and set an egg carton in their place for the shipped eggs? That way you can have 1 rail turning for your own eggs and the shipped eggs resting for the first week. Once the "no turn" period is up you can replace the rails and put the shipped eggs in there and won't have to worry about turning any of them.
