So shipped Monday CA arrived today TN but the gash on the box caused me to put plastic under it b/f opening... But lots of Bubble Wrap by PapaBrooder (& lots of extra eggs too & super effort above & beyond to get them mailed to me) All Eggs Shells GOOD 2 Layers of eggs , tons of bubble wrap per egg, plus around all. I assume from the gash on the box the air cells will be in a sorry state, so not even handling them to candle, just let them rest 6hrs to get to house temp, then into bator - NO TURNER , will candle day 3 or 4 to see what we have, will individually hand tilt my 4 own flock eggs meanwhile. They finally got our gas turned back on!

It is still freezing in here though, so I will get an updated pic of my 28 eggs set as soon as I thaw out some.

Picked up my eggs today! Yippee! Thanks to the generosity of Sunnyskies and someone from Pet Chickens of Virginia, I ended up with... 38 eggs! Yowza!



There are EEs, OEs, Silkies, Cochin x Silkie, Marans, SFL x RSL...that's all I can remember. It's going to be fun rotating and turning the next 7 days until I can toss some. But I'm super excited! Here's my photo for the hatch rate contest. All snuggled into my homemade incubator. I set them at 7:30pm east coast.

That is truly an abundance of eggs, may the all hatch!

Omg! PROBLEM! Came home and my hydrometer was 10% higher than normal at 70! I took some water out, and now its at about 68 after sitting for quite a few minutes! I don't hve a hydrometer only the reference one....it is bad to have more humidity than what is normal: 50-60%?

are my eggies ok? the well barely has any water in it!

im just guessing the eggs are making it more humid, holding water themselves, but is my humidity BAD?!?!?!?!

how would it affect my eggs if I don't change it?!?!?! im freaking out tooooooo much!

The humidity that high for a short time shouldn't cause a problem. I would try to remove all the water. Maybe start by taking your eggs out for just a min(you can cover them with a warm towel from the dryer or something if that makes you fell better, but not necessary) Then dump the water and dry the bator and put the eggs back in. The humidity will still read high for a short bit but should lower and stabilize.

I concider a normal humidity to be between 20-42% depending on your preference. I try to keep mine between 32-42% for the 1st 18 days.

Yay, for heat! A few years back, my furnace quit an d it took forevvvvvvver ( ok, it was a week) to get the right part; I was miserable!

Yes 70% is too high and yes the eggs will produce some of their own humidity as some of their water evaporates. What a consistently too high humidity through incubation may do is prevent your eggs from losing enough moisture so that the air cell does not expand enough to give the chick room to turn when pipping.

Edited because I forgot to say that your eggs shouldn't be harmed at all by such a short time with the high humidity. But you should definitely try to get it down some.

Huh. I can not believe I didn't even think of the NYD hatch until today. Looked at the calendar and my first thought was "Dec. 11th, hmm...isn't that set day for NYD hatch?" OK, keep in mind that Dec. 10th was my wedding anniversary and I didn't remember THAT until hubby said something.

Anyway, looks like I'm missing NYD this time around. My birds are all together for this bitter cold snap upon us, and I've got maybe a dozen eggs on the counter which may be pure or mixed, some of which have cracks from the cold. SOoooo, wah wah wah.
