5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

Frizzles are wicked!
I have just the Frizzle for you then hahah.

This is my little Cornflake colored Frizzle.

How many?
Very jeleous of your Marans and OE's!
She is so cute! Wish I could find one around here. I even ask the chicken guy of the county if he had any frizzle's. Nope he didn't have any. He said he was more into raising call ducks now. He usually has at least 1,000 fowl at a time at his place and not one frizzle or sizzle....

Greetings all, I have to admit I've been tempted to candle earlier than I usually do but am holding off until Saturday. To distract myself, I decided to shop cabinet incubators. Good grief they are pricey! I am determined to build one, and anyone (hint hint CC!) who has done, any instructions/pictures/drawing sure would be helpful. Would a good start be a defunct fridge or wine cooler, or is it better to build from wood?

Also, some fun news, my younger pen of Silkies consists of 4 hens and a cock, they are all under a year of age, have been laying 1-3 months collectively, and 2 are evidently of a mind to hatch some eggs - one went to nest yesterday and didn't move, and another took over when the first left to eat and drink. Now they are sitting together on the two eggs DH let them keep today LOL. I guess if they prove they're serious in the next 24 or so hours I'll give them some more - if they do a good job they will be far more likely to hatch than I am.

great news!

just checked my eggs!
out of 25, we have 7 silkies that are good! 9 are clears, but we have no idea how long they were refrigerated from my breeder. too bad.

we also have 7 OEs but they are so hard to see into because they are so dark!
all are heavy, so I think it may bean something good!

the egg I thought died is moving!

I wont have the best hatch rate, but hey, that's not what im hatching for.....im hatching so I could do it with my friends, and that's what counts!!!! at least ill hae 7 chicks! maybe 7 more if my OEs turn out good!!!!!!

SOOOOOOO EXCTTED NOW!

The most important part, how could I forget.lol. I have just sold a bunch of my original flock and have decided to go into breeding White Leghorn ( yes I know, how boring ) but I love WLH's, they are fantastically big and white and large red combed haha. So I have got 15 WLH eggs and I also stuck in 2 Frizzle eggs because my frizzle just started laying ( after her moult ) so I really wanted to see how they would come out. What are you hatching Chicken Pickin?
WLH are so sweet. I have been wanting a frizzle ever since I discovered them. I think they just look awesome. I have really been wanting a buff colored/red frizzle. Just one, so I can admire the cuteness.

We lost our one and only frizzle.. it was a bantam and could get through thre coop fence. Her and one of her friends got out at night tried tonget a drink from the "duck pond" and fell in... saved one, but the frizzzle was long gone. It was the wife's favorite and will have to find more...
