5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

Oh and Chicken Little is doing fine. Made her a sweater tonight out of half of a leg warmer. The ankle part went around her head. I cut slits for her wings.

This will cover her bare spots and protect the stitches. Now I have to make one for Long John Silver.

Oh, and thanks for the chicken dreams!

I dreamed I looked in on my eggs and the chicks and the quail exploded out of the eggs and ran up my arms and crawled inside my shirt.

Glad she is doing well. And I love her leg warmer sweater! Im going to borrow this idea if I ever need to cover a chicken.

My eggs went into lock down last night because I needed room to set a bunch of new eggs in the incubator that arrived in the mail yesterday ! (my Christmas present)

I may have to change my signature to "Addicted to Hatching" I have three sets going right now and am at full capacity.

For some reason my phone only gave me 1/2 the photo, but here are 7 of the bakers dozen! :yiipchick :weee They took a break for awhile, but we have 3 more zipping and a few others pipped. One is a BCM (shipped) with a detached and saddle cell...and it externally pipped 1/2 way down the shell, an inch from the line we drew. We put it with the pip up so it can breath (it was bubbling with each breath with big end up). Clearly it is in the wrong position. Should we just moisten the membrane every few hours and see what happens?
What little cuties! Hope your malpositioned one hatches ok.

Congrats, @SunnySkies :)

We are day 22.5 and I woke to chirping of another CCL/SBEL. We started with 33, put 29 in lock down, and have 17! Thankfully they have hatched in groups of 3-5 which makes it less overwhelming for me and I get to know who is who in a nice way (unlike my crazy dream!) I have zip tied a few that confuse me. I can't believe how rambunctious the older ones are. They zip around so fast and knock the younger ones over.

I am going back to sleep for a while, but we have two that may need help. We are trying to be hands-off for the most part...but the Marans that was drowning is still alive and breathing fine now since we put it with pip side up (pip in center, malpositioned). We just moistened the penny sized membrane. Then we have one with pea sized pip and no zipping but I think it is shrink wrapping. They both pipped 15 hours ago. We had to go in and put in a rail to hold up the last 4 Marans that have detached and/or saddle cells, and misted warm water during but it may not have helped :/

I am getting so excited to see the lockdowns hatch!

Ugh! I'm so impatient! I keep reading about all y'all with already hatched/hatching chicks and am now standing in front of the bator going, "come one babies! I'm ready!"

LOL I know just what you mean - even though I have 3 Silkies that hatched, I am dying to see what hatches from my friend's barnyard mix eggs, the one we hatched a couple of weeks ago is so cute!

We always have early ones. Then late ones.

Lots of cute hatched chicks!

That's a fun dream! I'm so glad Chicken Little is doing well. She looks so cute in her little sweater.

Does it seem to bother her at all?
