everybody have beautiful hatches full of cute little featherbutts.

Okay, (yet another) question. I was NOT expecting pips tonight so I didn't set up my brooder. Yeah, I know. I'm a slacker. But if by some chance one of them hatches tonight will it/they be okay til morning? All I have to do is set up the heat source.

Knowing they are in there, chirping, but not pipping is agonizing! I keep imagining them shrinkwrapped or some other horrible thing, just desperately waiting for some help.

I am telling myself, "step away from the 'bator"

C'mon, chickies!

If you can hear them they have pipped internally. They should show an external pip sometime tomorrow, and probably hatch right on time on the 1st. Shrink-wrapping usually doesn't happen unless they have already externally pipped and there is insufficient humidity.

They can live on the yolk for three days.

I like to get them out within one day though. Try to not remove them when there are pips but if you have to(Sometimes they will start causing trouble) spray some warm water from a clean water bottle or toss in a wet paper towel.

Chicks can stay in the hatcher up to 48 hours after hatch, and should stay at least until fluffed and dry. You will be fine :)
