5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

400

Here's my first 3 Am Hatchers! I've got 2 JG x gold comet running around and 1 more Am drying out! And I have at least 2 silkies pipped!

They are adorable! Your hatch is going great! What is the yellow one that just hatched?

My first chick just hatched and it is an OE! Its color looks just like a golden cuckoo Marans pullet! Keeping my fingers crossed that it is a girl!

She is so pretty! We can assume your pullet luck is holding :D

Ahhh!!! My darn dog rubbed her back against the drawers of my dresser (it's how she scratches her hard to reach places...by rubbing herself on furniture

) which is where my incubator is...and knocked the thermometer down onto the bottom!!!! I read so much about how you do NOT open the incubator during lockdown...but, since none of mine have pipped yet, is it safe for me to open it just long enough to put the thermometer back up????

Just used web cam to take picture of eggs, Saw one that was 'zipped' has 3:15 minutes to hatch the rest of the way.

will try to paste to site, have to do a bit of editing, too much of 'me' in pic's. Web cam is being as deceptive as eggs were yesterday.

looks like Myakka Silkies will be first despite 3rd group to be set. Must be because shipped from in state.

While you are at it, add some water to the tanks.

Yes, with no pips you can open the incubator.

you're good as long as no one has pipped

CONGRATULATIONS EVERYONE!!! I wish I could be celebrating with ya'll, but even with all of my trying bad luck has hit me again. None of the bantam eggs ever showed signs of growth and my one lone RIR egg did not make it till lockdown. I think I am going to let mother nature take its course next time and let one of my chickens go broody. I need a better incubator if not. Maybe it is just me, heck I don't know! LOL

I am with you. If this hatch doesn't go better than my last couple, I think I am just going to let me hens handle it from now on. Just can't go through wiggly eggs at lock down, then making a grave yard.
