5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

Well it's 12:30 here and we have the two chicks from earlier and 9 pips. The chick with the bloody pip started to have some obvious problems so I opened the pip up a little and cleaned some dried membrane and blood clots from it's beak and face I also removed most of the shell from the end of the egg so I can better monitor it's progress. Now that it's not struggling to breath it's resting. I think it's going to be OK but it's clear that it has bled out quite a bit.

The screed actually helps them with their feed and legs. Slick smooth surfaces are bad for them. They will figure it out.

that's a great picture! do you guys think my chick will get tangled on the aquarium tubing i have to fill the wells? I can pull it out if needed. I'm stressing to much

I woke up to 3 pips this morning

All 3 the RSL eggs with the Silkie dad

I won't be able to watch them hatch though, as hubby and I are leaving to go spend new years day with my family. Hopefully I'll come home to chickies! The 4 RIR eggs are still not doing anything, but last time my RIR's hatched on day 23, and someone told me it can be due to their large size... Will have to wait and see

Oh that was fun! Just went outside to bang on my pan..like I do every year..and my DH gets the car alarms going..boy, it was way noisy this year out there! Love it! Fireworks every where, car alarms going off every where, and..a cop car going off in the neighborhood. Had to wonder is something was actually going on there, but it stopped about a min. into the noise. Still hearing some fireworks here and there. This was a fun one this ...well...past year.
