Our babies silkies have been going outside in the coop during the day for 2weeks now, inside at night. With lamp on cooler nights. Out temps (Brisbane Australia) between 15-18deg at night and high during the day 23-29deg. They are chirping loudly at 6pm sundown to come in, file into the cat carrier waiting to be carted to the bathroom and fed.

Question is, how do I teach them to go in the coop and not scream at me? and when can I leave them out for the night?

Are you talking celcius or farenheit? Sweet little chicks that have been pampered and coddled tend to do a bit of crying the first few nights they're left alone in the dark. It gets me all anxious like I was letting my children cry themselves to sleep 😅 SoftSilkie's article is a great read to get you on the right track.

Celsius in Aussie land :thumbsup will have a read.

I thought so, but my brain was having trouble associating cold with 15c ;) It's down to between 0- 5c at night here and dropping quicker than I'd like! Have you been using some sort of heater with them or have you weaned them off of supplemental heat? They look fairly feathered out so if they're sleeping without heat as is they should be just fine out there, as much as they'll try to tell you different!

At 60 degrees F, I would say they are just fine outside without supplemental heat. Wean them off of whatever heat source they have and leave them outside. They'll try to sweet talk you into letting them into the house, but they need to learn that they live outside XD

They're in there! Hubby thinks I'm nuts for having a cam in there - nice to see they're okay! Chirping has come to a halt, only 5mins after closing the door 😴💤
Hubbies will always think your nuts when it come to your chickens!😊
My silkies went outside at night in the same temps at 5 1/2 weeks. They complained for a bit, but then they were just fine. Don’t worry!😊

We're almost at 7weeks now.. and I'm playing pick the roo in my head!!

Brown ones I think are ladies.. 2 white ones I'm not sure of. The one facing with two brown heading away - always upright and sussing me out when others flee!
