I have two beautiful 6-7 week old chicks who are just not feathering the same. The combs and wattles are not large but feather pattern throwing me off. Fairly certain the girl is the more blue pattern up front and the boy is the black one in back. Thoughts or guesses?!

The lighting is pretty bad. If this thread gets any traction I can post more photos

These photos were taken last Friday when I brought them home. The lady thought they were both girls but I have my doubts in the black one vs the darker blue one

Wyandotte's can be tricky to sex because girls tend to pink up early. But right now they both look like pullets to me. I don't really see any differences in feathering other than color.

Thanks for the reply! I know! I can never tell with Wyandottes and i feel like I am always prepared for the worst!

2 weeks later so guessing around 8 weeks ish now. I am leaving one pullet one cockerel but still optimistic for 2 pullets! Thoughts?!

Bird number 2 is the one I think might be cockerel below (more black)

You'll occasionally get young chickens that have strange and/or poor quality lacing--I've seen it called pseudo-double lacing before (the genes that make up lacing are complex, and also require slow feathering, so sometimes that first set of feathers has some strange ones that look nicer as they age and molt).

That said, I don't see anything that to make me think your chicks aren't pullets. Male wyandottes will often start to develop patches of solid, unlaced red feathers around their shoulders even before they get saddle feathers or have an obviously roo-ish waddle and combs. Yours don't have any signs of that yet.
