I have a few different breeds...sorry I'm new to this and I dont know what they are. I know we have bantams again I know there are several types of those, I have 3 yellow of another breed and 3 black. Well the yellow and black dont like us anymore. All 13 use to come to me when they heard my voice, they would also follow me around, they all would wait at the front of the cage for me at the same time every morning and one little one will not leave my side. Anyway now they run and freak out when we try to hold them, they try to peck our hands and squawk really loud and flap their wings to get away. I know they cant be held forever but I want them social...my friend has psyco chickens and when I have to chicken sit I swear I need to wrap bubble wrap from my feet to my knees...not joking either! I dont want my chickens to be this way. Anything else I can do to keep them friendly?

How old are they? Most of mine went through a phase similar to what you are describing and then became interested in me again when they were a few months older. Occasionally giving them treats will also help. A few of mine who were 3 months old and had started to take interest in me and treats loved yogurt so much that they were always the first to run up and wouldn't give me time to get the yogurt of the spoon before eating it.

Amy,

It may just be the breeds you have. I know that if your Yellow chicks turned out to be White Leghorns, they are just not a warm and fuzzy and friendly breed. As they age though, they do mellow out, but I have better luck with the heavy breeds being calmer and more friendly. Then, I really think that different lines of birds are calmer and more people oriented. I have a new flock of about 25 birds and they are the most docile, calm things. They are 9 weeks old and fight to get to sit on my feet and look up at me until I pick them up and snuggle them under my jacket. They have such personalities! Others that I have raised in my kitchen, then garage, then finally coop have nothing to do with me and act as if I were going to eat them each time I catch them. Wild they are. Sorry, but you may need to get a different breed. Silkies are just he sweetest birds, and maybe because they can't see well, they are so gentle. I had Sultans before that were more like pet parrots than chickens. Good luck and I am sorry your 'children' have turned into typical teenagers. HenZ

, Amy! Go to the top of the forum page and click on Uploads. You'll be able to upload pics there. I then copy the url of the pic I want to post and paste it to my post. There's a preview button at the bottom of your post page you can click on to see if your post looks the way you want it to. Hope this helps!

Mine went through this in their juvenile stage as well. Once they started laying they turned sweet and snuggly again
