6 month barred rock died

6 month, healthy hen died unexpectedly. Acted lethargic, wouldn't eat or drink last day. Thought eggbound before she died but checked and was not. After she died, necropsy, nothing obvious. All internal organs appeared healthy. 2 other hens remain healthy. No mites, coop clean and dry. Purina layer feed. Any ideas?

Sorry for your loss. The only way to know is to get a necropsy through your state vet. They look at organs and test for certain diseases. The body must be kept cold, not frozen, and either taken or shipped overnight to them. It would be good to ask questions of them in case this should happen again. Sometimes when people do necropsy at home, it can be good to take pictures of abdominal organs and description, and post that here for opinions. Here is a list of most state vets and contact info:
