6 month old Broody hatching First time Journal

Rambita will be just as happy with one chick as she would with 6. My last broody only managed 1 out of 6 and she was a great mother, in fact she stayed with the chick for about 15 weeks.

I've decided to try and get 1 or 2 day old chicks if the eggs fail under my broody, like your Rambita I'd feel for my Doris too!! (I love chicken names!!) and it's obviously a great way to break the broody cycle.

Doris has kicked out another egg this morning, so we are down to 3 too.

I definitely don't mind just 1 chick but I have a bad feeling that none Will hatch

I guess I can still be hopeful bc if that other egg broke than the others should have by now and haven't so.....



Btw we did the enclosure inside the mansion for her, a really nice size for a brooder home. The others will still be able to come in and lay in other boxes and see them but not access them.

Keeping other girls out of the nest box will help prevent breakage, it's great you can block Rambita off from the others.

Next time someone goes broody here I might give her fakes until lockdown since I don't have a way to separate them.

I can't believe this my neighbor dropped off a 2 week chick BC the others were killed by her dogs this one has a bad limp

I took him to the broody I figured he was too old but I tried he sat so calm by her side she stared and one minute later he got a peck from her so he is inside with me and I'm running to get chick feed which was a plan for tomorrow but ill post a pic soon

You know my first reaction was rooster, but I really don't know the age I'm guessing 2 weeks but maybe they are as old as 4 or 5 weeks? I saw these pics in the following link and if she is older she could be female... we will see I guess
