Hi!

I have two jersey giants mixed in with the rest of my flock. They are about 6 weeks old now. I was originally told that they were not pullets but I'm starting to question one. It's gettiń a comb and waddle earlier than the other one and is a little bigger too. Plus it's a light yellow with some black flecks on its neck and tail. I haven't heard any other noise than peeping from it though. How can I tell if it's a roo or pullet right now?

Possibly, by your description. A picture would help also. But if it is a cockerel, he will probably not be mean, considering how docile the breed is.

Didn't realize I posted the thread twice! Sorry about that....

Anyway,
I will try and get a pic later today up. I never even imagined keeping a roo but I can't figure out what I'd do with it either, lol I'm glad to hear they are docile as my children LOVE to go and pick them up and play with them. Hopefully once a I post a pic I can have you guys help me figure it out:)

OK here are the pictures I could get. The bird didn't want to pose very well, lol

This last one I caught right after preening.

Hope that helps!

That doesn't look like a Jersey Giant, it looks like a Delaware. It's good you posted the picture! Jersey Giants don't come in that Colombian variety, just white, splash, black and blue. And if he was a white he'd have willow shanks.

He defiantly looks like a rooster though. Thanks for posting!

EDIT: Delawares are in the same class as Jersey Giants (American) and they are a docile breed also. Good luck!

Ah, see that's what you get from getting them from a backyard breeder on craigslist, lol I wonder if my black one is truly a Giant then! Good to know that they are docile. I have fallen in love him with already, he's so pretty. Hopefully he will behave and my neighbors will be OK with him. We do live in the country and people around us have had roosters b/f so we should be OK. Lets hope none of my others are roos!
