6 week old Pekin can’t walk

How long has he been like this? I can clearly see he is having trouble there also. It can be so gradual it's missed. And running isn't so good for heavy weight ducks their legs are having enough trouble just holding up their bodies. So get the liquid B complex and start him on it quick over a tasty treat. I would give it to both Pekins. And once you see improvement keep it up because this is something you will probably have to do all their lives. After 10 weeks you can start them on Nutritional yeast sprinkled over their feed a couple times a week. But for now you need the best stuff to get him through this. 1 tab per cup of feed for the nutritional yeast and 1 ml over treats per duck for now of the liquid b complex. And don't worry about it saying injectable just peel off the foil and use a dropper or needless syringe and draw out 1 ml per duckling.

I ordered the B complex that is mentioned in the thread, it will be here tomorrow. In the meantime, I’m giving the 1ml Niacin drops that I currently have until it gets here and the nutritional yeast. 😊 We have been feeding them peas as well.

That's awesome, hopefully with all your doing you'll see improvement soon. And no running please. Keep him from over using his legs till she is up walking normal. Water therapy is one of the best ways to help them gain leg strength. They need a safe way in an out.

Miss Lydia,

Joe is eating and drinking really well now, he wasn’t drinking at all on Monday. He can stand up for a little bit now. His right leg is turned in and he was dragging it to walk yesterday. Today, He is actually moving it and trying to use it to walk. He’s even preening himself now! Woohoo!

Two questions please...

1. Can the leg that is turned in recover and eventually be used? Have you seen a duck fully recover before?

2. His partner almost pulled his eye out on Monday (it was so scary) and tried to bite him on top of the head 6 times this morning while he was gimping and drinking his water. We have had them separated for 5 days now except when they’re outside. Do you know why she wants to hurt him? We’re very worried about this.

Keep us updated

Any time one is injured or sick the flock picks up on it. They will attack and even try and push the injured sick duck away since weakness brings predators. Just keep them separated but where they can still see each other until Joe is really going good again. Keep up the B complex don't stop that at all. So happy to hear he is doing so much better.

Thank you so much Miss Lydia!

Do you think that he will recover well enough to live a good life since he’s showing good improvement in just a few days?
