6 Week Old Pullet Smells Bad *Update: Cocci or Coryza?*

It won't hurt them. It's like an you taking an anitbiotic and only actually having a virus. It might not be necessary but it doesn't actually hurt you :) I've never dealt with Coryza so I'm not sure what the medicine of choice is. Corid only treats coccidia so it would probably be better to use the Sulmet at this point.

Still no Sulmet... My parents really don't understand ._. I will go to the feed store this week.

I'm so sorry. It's hard sometimes to get parents to understand. I know, I have 4 kids...

Keep trying so that they know that you are serious and that something is wrong. Your chicken shouldn't smell like that and if it continues, it just might mean that you could lose them all.

I did find some poo stuck to Petrie's underside. Not near her vent, but like she layed in it. Their tails go up, then level, then straight down, then up, then down, then level, etc. I dearly love my Petrie, as she snuggles into my jacket. When I was holding her today, she seemed okay, except her head was tucked in. Could she just be cold? It's 61* and raining. They still have a heat lamp. And a new thing today- head shaking. I was walking up to the coop and it looked like they all started sneezing. Then I let them out and they stopped?

I noticed the sneezing when we put straw in, but the coop is ventilated. Could the straw be an issue?

She may be cold but I think it's because she doesn't feel well. I just hope your parents come through for you in time..the head shaking is another symptom of a respiratory disease.

I think you are going to drive yourself crazy with this. Please, just try for the sulmet...use it for the directed 3 days. If it doesn't help or stop the symptoms, then try duramycin 20 or tylan 50. But, first things first. Stop driving yourself nuts and start with what you can. Sulmet!

Even though your chickens will remain carriers, you aren't going to care unless you get more chickens. We need to get these better first.
