I can't tell? My hubby thinks it's a roo but I don't know. Def has a bit taller comb than the other RI, but she/he/it is very mild mannered and they are both about the same size and feather color. One might be a bit darker, but only by a fraction.

I don't know a whole lot, but if it were a roo wouldn't he try to crow by now?
My roo Leroy tried like crazy to crow. His head was all in it but his little voice just couldn't do it.
When he did finally get it we couldn't shut him up!

That much comb and some pink/red wattles showing at 6 wks. old says roo to me! Pullets won't get any red until they are close to point of lay.

Not necessarily.

I've had cockerels start to crow at all different ages. As a matter of fact, I have a Marans cockerel who is 21 wks. old and has just now started to try and crow the past 3 days.

It really all depend on the cockerel.

I have 3) 9 week old RIR roo's No crowing yet! But I would say he's a roo too!

God Bless!

P.s. Mine are very gentle and love to be picked up!

Oh no...I really don't want a roo at all!

I'm uploading some more pix of them together so that might help. If it is a roo I will be giving it away.
When we picked up the chicks I asked the salesman what to do if any of the 6 were roos and he said, "Can't be. They're all females"
Well I guess not? I didn't think you could guarentee 100 as chicks but he seemed to think they could.
