6 year old Rooster wry neck?? NOW WITH VIDEO!!

THis might be what my silkie has....she was attacked yesterday and now can't keep her head upright. I'm going right now to get her some vitamins to see if that will help any. THANKS for the info...it might have saved her life! (I hope!)

He is worse today. Where he could muddle around and get his footing on the ground and walk yesterday he cannot do that today.
When I put him on the ground he flipped upsidedown and just lay there. I tried holding him straight before letting him go and he still fell over.
I put him in a private cage propped up until I decide what to do. It looks like he will have to be put down at this point.
If he had stayed stable I would have let him be. My daughter isnt here at the moment but I think she would prefer to tell him goodbye before he is sent across the rainbow bridge. Hopefully he will hang in there til she returns tonight.

Thank you for the link. My daughter wants to give him a chance so she gave him water with a straw tonight.
Im going to buy some babyfood tomorrow to give him. I have vitamins here to try. He still seems bright eyed considering. Got excited when he saw my daughter and started rooster talking to her. Soooo We wait and see.

I wanted to post an update: Midnight has improved and is almost normal with a little time, food and water only.
I have him seperated with a hen and chick now, instead of the cage, but Im not letting him out into the main group again with the other roosters.
I would have posted sooner but I decided to have a kidney stone and have been in the hosp. I will have it out tomorrow (Friday 8/5/11) so back to the hosp I go for more torture.
This is why he had no extra care. My daughter did her best and I figured she would find him passed.
He is a tough old buggar, His age may has something to do with his injury as the young roos all seem to want a challenge nowdays.
He was crowing this morning for the first time since the accident so he must feel better again plus he can hold his head up enough to crow.

So IF Wry Neck is from an injury to the noggin it looks like it CAN be healed with time and care.
When I get out of the hosp I will try and get a new video or at least some pics.

Oh wow! What great news. I bet your daughter is thrilled as well

Get Well Soon, hope your treatment goes well!

I had this same problem. My husband made me put him down then I read that it was a Vit B deficiency. I was just sick for killing a wonderful rooster needlessly.
