Whoever it was that recommended using the flash on the phone to candle, thank you. It works way better than my $1 flashlight. I was able to see the little dots moving! They were moving around like crazy! It is so cool! I'm going to try and rig something up so I can get pics for day 7.
Yes, not only did I cheat, but I cheated twice !

Simply posting to say that I really should post a comment whenever I hop on to catch up, so that when I click "go to my last post", I can end up somewhat much farther than I have already read..... Because THIS THREAD IS MOVING SO FAST!!! LOL
I'll catch up and post again not-so-soon hahahaha.

Tempted to candle tonight, but am feeling a little "DON'T- YOU-DARE-TOUCH-YOUR-EGGS!!!" After a few alcoholic ginger beers this arvo.
Must. Refrain. Tomorrow......so I can candle, to see how my temperature arguments with my incubator have been going.
Reminding myself that a little on the lower side is much better than a little on the higher side.
Would love to find a single accurate thermometer, that reads correct every time!!

Agreed. Especially in a still-air, multiple therms are a major stressor! I've resigned to one thermometer now, at turner level, and rotating egg position every other day. It's new for me so might work better than previous hatches. I've never rotated egg position and have had terrible chick hatches (but fantastic duck hatches, go figure).. so I'm HOPING that's the ticket!

I reached the end of getting caught up. & I have to say that I might have the most extreme way to have distracted myself from candling (so far), today I went w/ the hates chickens DH, & he/we agreed to adopt 4 rescue horses, 3 being Draft type/size. I think I now have permission to an un-limited # of chickens, b/c just 1 Clydesdale stallion = & now the DH has handed me a super bright pen light thingy that looks like it would be perfect for egg candling... so perhaps to distract myself form the fact that 3 of the 4 horses we will soon be shoveling up after daily *have heads bigger than my body* (yah, I'm short) maybe I should just go candle some eggs? BTW- If ever your DH wakes you up one morning b/c he found a tiny golden pony walking down the road in front of your house, & he looks like a kid at Christmas & says "can I keep it?" do NOT deny him the pony, b/c if you do, 7 years later he WILL find 3.5 Draft horses you can't deny him. True story. If anyone would like to grant me the prize for most extreme candling avoidance, pls pls make the prize be HAY, or horse feed ; /

LOL!! I had horses and chickens.. Got to where I never had time to ride anymore and my last remaining horse was going to a sad waste (he was fantastic!).. So, finally I told hubby I would sell him (use the term loosely as he went CHEAP to a good friend) so that I could "focus on just chickens".. So I've gotten NO flack over chickens since. Kinda different, but kinda the same as your free ticket. LOL

These eggs are amazing!! Do you show your birds as well? I would love to see your birds.

All this summer i candled my broody eggs with my phone. It has an excellent light!

This summer one day i had left my coop keys in the house (i hate having to lock my coops bc of curious people) i didn't go back to the house to get them, so i opened up my nest box flap and went in head first. The need to candle was real...lol desperate. Anyways i wiggled in and candled all my 7 eggs with my phone. The funny part of this was when pumpkin came into the coop and looked at me like i was crazy...which i was...lol getting OUT was the hard part! ROFL

I cant believe i still managed to climb in through the nest boxes....they were built really deep but theyre still small. LOL

The forum doesn't usually start getting really busy until the evenings Eastern Time. Then, you can literally sit on your subscription page and watch the new posts add up. I know, I tried it. LOL
