6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

Remind me again about the egg storage. I know keep cool and tilt every so often. But more details please. Last year I was told tilting was not important.

I like this LOL. :goodpost:

My roosters sometimes get up a bit too early  . Not always though most mornings about 6am. I cant hear them much from inside the house.

On the other hand my goat is in heat and boy oh boy a goat in heat is something else. The sound of a "dying" goat shrilling through the air is VERY LOUD early in the AM. Im sure neighbors LOVE it:oops:
A goat in heat. Hmmmm yes that sound miserable! LOL

My littlest goat is in an early heat today she is not even 6 months old. The real noise right now is coming from my buck because I pulled the girls out of the large pen. I prefer that my little goat not be bred till at least early summer. Looks like I'll have a loud buck every 3 weeks now.

I will attest that the flashlight recommended by Bama is da bomb, although I haven't tried it on caskets yet (and not gonna)

Of the farmers markets eggs set I pulled 9 as being totally clear (eggtopsy confirmed this), 1 Ameraucana/RIR egg is questionable and so will be left to percolate a little more, a dozen EE eggs are too dark and thick to see veins but the yolks are plenty dark, and one RIR egg has a little guy in there bobbing about and waving. It was sad to chuck the Andalusian eggs as I really wanted the blue birds. However, I have a bunch of BLRW and blue Marans that were set on Saturday that I'm looking forward to seeing who's onboard with their later candling.

Candle all the goats too
If it was that easy. I think there is a blood test and I know an Ultra Sound could confirm it. I'm using the wait and see approach for my 2 does I want to have kids. I mark their frisky days down and wait 20-22 days. If they are frisky again in 20-22 days I know the first frisky days produced nothing for me other than a bit of entertainment as my does run faster than my buck. My buck does catch them but they make him work and work for it.

Oh My gosh. This thread moves at lightning speed. There is no way I can keep up. Well maybe after tomorrow when I take my first semester nursing school finals. Well today was day 7 for me and I just candled!

I have 4 black/black bantam cochin and 4 silver/gold laced wyandotts, so I am really excited to see what I get. I just had 2 black/black bantam cochins hatch Sunday and this is what I got. Somehow it has white and almost looks mottled. I guess we will see as it grows, it's still the cutest, tiniest little thing. I can't wait to hopefully have 4 more at new years. I also have a few in the bator for a Christmas hatch next week that are doing great.
