6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

So I have some fuzzy butts to show off. I know these don't count for the NYD hatch along, I just wanted some Christmas babies, and the funny thing is this has been my best hatch so far. I got 20/22 which is a 91% hatch rate. The other 2 pipped and started zipping but just quit, not sure why or I would have had a 100% hatch rate. Anyway I got 10 black sex-links 7 girls and 3 boys, 7 white leg horns and 3 itty bitty black bantam cochins. So all in all a great Christmas gift.

And I have 4 more cochins and 4 SLW/GLW due for the NYD hatch

Am I right in thinking that everyone is past the "super excited" stage and have moved on to the "super anxious" stage? I almost cried last night when I discovered my incubator was at 93, and stayed up until 3am making sure it got back up to temp.

DH is on call for work over new years and I just might sleep next to the 'bator on the hide-a-bed (I've got it in the spare room) out of excitement and anxiety.

So cute. Makes me want to see mine.

Speaking of eggnog, has anyone ever made "aged" egg nog? http://altonbrown.com/eggnog-recipe/ ?
You make it without the egg whites and age it in the refrigerator for any amount time, even a year!
sounds good...i would add in a cup of moonshine for good measure....We are cooking his gumbo recipe tomorrow. I highly recommend it as an excellent starting point. We add fish, blue crabs, okra, lump crabmeat and scallops....Also his homemade salamander steak griller works well...Im a big Alton Brown fan

Peep, sorry you're down to only 8!

We need the recipe for the eggnog....I buy Evan Williams egg nog and like it a lot but a good recipe would be worth having!

I should clarify: I'm down to 8 in the Brinsea. The Miller incubator has the farmers market eggs in there, which is one definite chick in the RIR egg and 12 EE eggs that I cannot for the life of me see into, but the air cells are developing nicely. So I could have one additional chick from there or 13. I'm shooting for 2-4 more pullets in the coop and definitely want marans to be in the number.

+ + + + + +

The following is a very potent recipe. I warn you, try this at home! Please don't drink and drive....

The Infamous Eggnog (serves 12)

Ingredients:

6 eggs
1/2 C. powdered sugar
1 pint whiskey
3/4 C. granulated sugar
1 pint whipping cream
1 pint milk
1/4 C. rum

Separate the eggs with whites in one bowl, yolks in another.
Beat the egg whites until foamy and gradually add the 3/4 C. granulated sugar and beat until stiff.
Beat the egg yolks with the 1/2 C. powdered sugar until light, then add 1 pint whiskey.
Combine the two egg mixtures.
Whip 1 pint cream in another bowl, then stir into the egg mixture along with a pint of milk.
Stir in the rum.
Top with nutmeg and serve.

, Yeah, I went out today and moved things around (chickens) so that I could get my brooder room set up this weekend.

Trying to get anither run done so that I can move the others back in place so I get them set for the Easter Hatch-A-Long.
