6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

So I have some fuzzy butts to show off. I know these don't count for the NYD hatch along, I just wanted some Christmas babies, and the funny thing is this has been my best hatch so far. I got 20/22 which is a 91% hatch rate. The other 2 pipped and started zipping but just quit, not sure why or I would have had a 100% hatch rate. Anyway I got 10 black sex-links 7 girls and 3 boys, 7 white leg horns and 3 itty bitty black bantam cochins. So all in all a great Christmas gift.

And I have 4 more cochins and 4 SLW/GLW due for the NYD hatch

Yay, Christmas peeps! So cute! I love the little fuzzy legs!

Went ahead and candled today..... I have all 4 cochins going strong and 1/4 SLW/GLW I think is an early quitter but the other 3 are moving and doing great. I'm excited to see what I will get from that pairing. Does anyone have any ideas??? Silver laced wyandott roo/ golden laced wyandott hen. I'm thinking it could be 50-50, but I don't know much about color genetics.

Thanks for the pics!! They are cuties!!

My early batch which started to pip last night had 2 hatch totally around dawn & 2 more just now.
I still have not added a drop of water b/c the humidity here is like being underwater, we apparently got another 4 inches rain overnight.
The bath towles smell musty, the windows (of the house on the inside) feel damp.

So, I've got another 2 doz ish eggs in there which are actually due around midnight tonight.

When I candled some looked closer to ready then others, so I think this is going to be a long drawn out hatch...

But I have 4 live chicks atm !! woohoo

early Christmas presents ....how fun! I have 7 eggs i'm dry hatching too. We are finally getting some rain here(crazy for the NW to be so dry)...so humidity is up in the house. From what i've been reading, dry hatching has a higher success rate. i was planning on putting water in the last few days, just in case :)
PS...what did you hatch?

The rain is missing us in the Sacramento area--Skipped over to the Mountains.

Stay Dry!

These are BYM from the same 3 flocks (including my own) which I have set for NYD HAL .
At this moment 6 have hatched.

5 brown eggs (4 of those being possibly part or all Astrolorp <-- anyone know what those look like when they hatch??)
1 blue egg, from my flock, most likely a pure CCL under a pure SFH, but possibly EE on either side of that.

so basically mutts :>

Here is a picture of an australorp chick. They look like they have eye liner on. Some do not have quite this much white on them, but they do have white tips on their wings.

That's awesome about the hatches and crazy about the weather. Up here in Northern West Virginia, we've also been getting a little rain. The scary thing is that it's Christmas Eve and I've been outside most of the day in shorts!!! We should be up to our knees in snow right now! I never thought I'd say this but I miss the snow.
