6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

That's how i have them now, big end up in and egg carton. Do you know how long the hens lay fertile eggs after being mated? My frizzle silkie Roo got killed by a red tail hawk. He died saving my Australorp pullet ...i have her in the house keeping her warm...she's going to make it. i'm happy i have these eggs from him... i planed on keeping a frizzled female... might end up keeping another roo??? I still have my favorite ( pure silkie) cockerel. No more free ranging in my yard with out me right there until i get more netting up. :)
Oh NO! I'm so sorry!

What a brave Roo!
I think that the hen will lay fertile eggs for three weeks after mating.

Happy holidays, everyone and Merry Christmas. Well, I'm down in my chair. Eaten too much , visited too much, too much noise and I'm done for the day. Had a wonderful time and ready for a nice well earned rest. Santa was extra good to me. One of my favorite presents was a black and white polka dot pair of half rubber boots. Perfect!!!!

Not to be a downer on Christmas, Ron, but today is day 8 on my eggs and I left the top off for way to long. Almost 4 hrs. It's hot in my room so it got down to 70 and stayed with humidity of 37%.. Have I damaged them? Hope not!!!!

I forgot to plug in the incubator after the cooling period this morning.

It'll be a X-Mas Miracle if any of these eggs make it! LOL!

Ugh, fingers crossed they are ok. I seem to remember others in this thread having similar events and everyone saying the eggs should be fine. I hope so!!

Yeah, but this is the THIRD time I've had a temperature dip that's lasted more than a few hours!

Say, has anyone ever tried the "6 -hour" cooling period on their Brinseas? I could never figure out why they had that setting. To simulate really forgetful hens?

I hope the temps stabilize for you!

When Brinsea added the cool down cycle, other types of fowl were still being researched. I might be good for other birds to have a longer or shorter time without heat.

six hours seems long to me though.

Last time, I didn't get the temps to stabilize until the last 4 days. lol! I'll think I have it set all perfect, but that only lasts for 1 or 2 days. I may have to invest in a better incubator! I was going to try to make one, but I can't even get a pre-made one to work right!
