6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

ok please can I get some clarification here.............the side the air sac sags down into the egg should be up or down? also I had noticed some darker spots at the pointy end of the eggs what is this? is it mold is it the chicks pipping at wrong end of the membrane? is it my imagination creating problems not there or? whew I am getting really anxious and eggcited...so temperature should go down to 98 from 99.5?

also usingm an egg carton so we stop turning eggs and leave them all in the egg cartoon flat? I mean leave the egg carton flat with the eggs in the egg holes? should I put my eggs on their side in the egg cartoon?

The side where the air cell sags goes up... so the most open space is upward. I have my shipped eggs fat end up in a carton but tilted at about a 45 degree angle. I don't know about dark spots.?? The pointy end pips are cracks or like a normal pip in the egg.

edited because I got my egg ends confused

Set like you have the eggs, you will be able to see if a chick pips the wrong end.

If you are using cartons, put the big end (air cell) up. It doesn't have to be straight up, the eggs can be a slight tilt. I haven't done the carton method before, this is just what I've read about it. The first time I incubated eggs I just laid the eggs down on the wire floor. That time, none of the ones with floaty air cells hatched. I'm going to try this method this time. and see if it works better. I have a lot of saddle-shaped air cells.
As for the dark spot,

. it might be yolk sac, which doesn't get absorbed by the chick until just before it hatches. Probably nothing to worry about.

QVC is cheeper

But, but, can't find them there?? I see the measuring and the spice ones, salt and pepper too, but no knife holders. I posted a site, looked all over typed in different ways, but it doesn't seem that they have any. Maybe they will restock after a while?

Ron Ive never hatched in cartons. I remember reading that u mark an x somewhere and that goes up? Can u refresh my memory on that?
Put the X in the top 1/3 middle of the aircell. It helps make sure the egg is set correctly in the egg carton. The chick should pip close to that spot.

There are veins that need to be absorbed and other things left in there. After the hatch, look inside the egg and you will see what I am talking about.

Do not worry about it now.

Just a few more days and we can see if any of these poor eggs will hatch! They are not looking good, despite some of the grins a few got early on!
