6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

so when they need air they do the internal pip and when they need more air they externally pip?  is there a stage other then hatching you know they have made a safe transition to breathing air?
I'll give it a go.. I say, when they internally pip they are breathing. If they have the strength to then externally pip, I would say it's safe to say they are processing O2 very efficiently. :)

Someone best be around that knows how to do this!

They pip for air. Then they can take their sweet time to decide to zip. It may be because they have some absorbing to do..yolk..blood. When they have done all of that, they feel strong enough to go through with the zip. Best way I know how to explain.

thats kinda what I was hoping I just didnt know...and I keep worrying about them breathing ok and watching the humdity like a hawk

Once they pip/zip, and hatch, humidity will go up, so don't worry, it's ok for that to happen.

Wow, congrats!

I have a couple of EE's that look like one or the other is next to hatch..very loud, but..I also have a very loud sizzle egg...I like being able to hear them..they are getting anxious to get out of there.

Yeah, mine are very loud!!! I probably heard them last night whilst I slept but for their older cousins still in the brooder in my room chirping, I guess it didn't occur to me that these were the new babies! Now though, I can definitely distinguish the difference. lol

I'm also very pleased that they both look like Big Daddy Crow! He should be a proud papa!

I do have a concern though, the second one is fully out now but seems to be suffering from vertigo or something. She's been on her back most of the time. She will straighten up, then relax and roll right back onto her back. Is there something wrong with her???

Congrats to all the peeping pipping and hatching...

I have 3- breeding pens of eggs in, so far only the eggs from pen #2 is piped zipped and 1 has hatched (out of 4). Now before picking my breeding trios I looked at the chicken calculator on Blue on buff orps and saw they will be 50% black and 50% blue. Now the one that hatched is buff the one that is zipped appears to be buff so "WHAT THE FRENCH TOAST" something went wrong. The other eggs not doing anything are Blue on Blue and Black on Blue so if they come out buff I think I will FREAK....lol. It's really know big deal just building up my Blue orp. line and Buff doesn't help.
