6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

Since others are doing their tally, here's mine:
20 set
3 clear, 2 quitters tossed at day 14.
of the 15 that made it to lockdown 14 hatched:
1 Araucana
1 Brabanter
4 Silkies
1 OE? (it was supposed to be an Isbar, but the egg was very Olive colored)
7 Isabelle Marans
That's 70% combined hatch rate (on shipped eggs)!
and 87% on the Marans eggs shipped from CA!

I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't consult C about switching from a still air to a forced air incubator. Somehow I don't think that is his wheelhouse. And life has taught me not to put all of my eggs into one basket. So two thermometers isn't a bad idea at all. Batteries do fail.

A clarification of the question for those that are more experienced than I with forced air Styrofoam incubators.

In a forced air Styrofoam incubator. What would the temperature parameters be? Low, Optimum and High. I have previously been following instructions for quite some time now that just so happen to also be posted in the first post. The tips for still air Styrofoam incubation. But I think that running at 101 would not be ideal in a forced air.

I was only teasing. :) It just reminded me of that saying. I agree... Two is one, one is none!!! <3

I am curious what an isabelle marans looks like. Do you have a picture?

Here are our 25 chicks. They a made up from barn yard mixes, rhodebars, CCL's, BR's, cuckoo marans, and LA's. Thank you all again, we had a great time, and are really looking forward to the Easter HAL.

Well, he's been in with the others for more than 24 hours and while he is easy to pick out, they're not picking on him - though he gets run over a lot - and he's trying to keep up/imitate them! Maybe he'll pull through after all... it took about half a dozen attempts to integrate him before it "worked," and I am SO GLAD they're all together!!!

He has been dubbed "Mouth" by my 10 yo son, lol.

Well everyone has done their tally, well I only got 8 out of 42 eggs, not a good total. I am very disappointed. Hopefully I will have better luck next time.

Here is a picture of my 12. The one in the front looks australorp to me, but it has blue on it. Could it be??? There were BA hens and a roo in the mix. There are 2 pure birchen marans, 1 BCM and the rest are mutts...unless I lucked into a BA! 50% hatch rate for me.

Here's my little Lorp. Imagine him black and white, instead of pink. :) Yours looks like it certainly could be! It will be interesting to see what it turns into. :)

I love your babies!
