6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

That's what made me think maybe a health issue with the adults.  I've had power outages during incubation before and always hatched out at least 2 - 3.  But it's probably a combination of things.  Also our power is usually right back on within the day and this is the first time I've ever done a hatch outside of spring/summer.

Whatever the reason, I'm still really sorry for your loss and hope for a double blessing for you in your next hatch.

Thank you Roan.
I have seen my friends set up, and he keeps beautiful birds. I wish I could nail it on the head...
Try, Try again, right?
I would really like to get into Blue Isbars, maybe some Jubilee Orpingtons...

That is a nice mix of breeds, who did you get your eggs from? I definitely want to get a couple of Isbars at some point.

I got the variety, which included Isbars, from @simonerol . They have some hard to find breeds, including Araucana and Pavlovskaya. The hens weren't laying very much when I ordered, so I couldn't get very many of one breed.

Have the friend worm them and wait two weeks before setting them after the second treatment.

They should also be on a good grower feed with supplemental calcium. Rooster over two years old can have lower fertility and lack of light lowers fertility in roosters during the summer.

The De-Wormer I can understand but how could it be fertility a fertility issue? All but one egg were growing, they all died before hatch, right @Nomibear ?

Yes. Only one was clear. The others I opened on day 25. One had stopped developing early, but was clearly a small chick. The others had full feathers, beaks, eyes. The yoke sacks had not been absorbed on any of the more developed 6.
I left the house at 1:30 on the 31st. I could have sworn I heard a cheep before leaving. If the power had turned off during the time I was gone, would that have been enough to lose those 6?

What was the breed of these eggs?

Have you or your friends had good hatches previously? Or have they all been some what poor?

Usually, as mentioned in previous posts, people come to the conclusion that a disease or virus in the flock causes these hatching issue. In some occasions it could also be that the flock is too inbred and that can also cause issues similar to this.

I got sick today.

Our hatch is complete.

Nine eggs set.
Eight eggs hatched, one quit around lockdown (89% hatch rate).
One breech, one "rescue" with a twisted leg that resolved itself. Both happy and healthy. ♡

Not bad for our "Set and Pray" method.

This was fun! We *must* do it again soon!

Sorry you were ill. I hope you feel better soon. Im always thankful when it is a 24hr thing.

My entire family was hit over the holiday vacation with a stomach bug, one by one we all got it. NO FUN. But at least it was only 24hrs per person. I was the last to get it just over the weekend.
