6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

On my way home today....and i have ALOT of catching up to do on here! LOL hope everyone had a great thanksgiving!

Im starting to collect eggs for a christmas hatch today...and hopefully my neighbor didnt miss the eggs under the broody....LOL shes supposed to hatch on christmas for me.

I have a few questions...
Since i dont have cadbury or marshie anywhere to hatch my "jappies" i think i will try to breed my "jappie" milkshake with my frizzle partridge silkie, timothy. That would make the babies 1/4 japanese bantam and 3/4 silkie. Not sure if i should do it because of the frizzle....anyone know if frizzle is recessive or dominant? I want to get as many frizzles as i can.
Milkshake is smooth feathered, and timothy is still silkie so will the chicks still come out smooth since silkied is a recessive trait?

AND i just realized...timothy and milkshake hatched from last years NYD Hatch! Haha seemed like yesterday they just hatched!

Me and my kids made our incubator. . Working to get the right temperature and humidity. . Right now. ..I got it to be pretty set to 95 temp and 60 humidity. . I want to lower the humidity a bit and raise the temperature. .. do you guys think that if I keep it like this will my eggs still be safe? .. I will be receiving my eggs soon. . I ordered 10 from papas poultry! .. Amy suggestions? ..

Check out "hatching eggs 101" by Sally Sunshine here on BYC. You need 99.5 F for forced air and 2 degrees higher for still air. Her info is very good. 95 degrees is fatal. I keep my humidity around 30% and it was a little too moist on my November hatch and I let it drop the last few days to get close to the desired weight loss. I am in Hemet just south of you. Happy Hatching

I'm hoping that's more of a guideline. I discovered last night that the kids had played with my temp knob on the bator the day before. It was only 89 in there for that long and I'm afraid to candle and see if I lost all my eggs.

I think it depends on how long they sit at a lower temp, 'cause I've had many sit for days at temps well below that and still hatch. Just candle them. :D

If you can get the temp back up they should be okay. The last ones I hatched the baton got turned off for I don't know how long. It was totally cold no heat whatsoever in it. I restarted it. I got 14 to hatch. Had 30 eggs in there only two others were fertile. One died early into incubation the other died while trying to hatch.

I do not think at 95 that the eggs will begin developing.

Thank you both! *huge sigh of relief* I won't keep freaking out. Tonight I'll candle and see how they're doing.
