6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

As long as you incubate in a room with central heat. And have in mind a place to keep them warm til spring it would be ok. I have to warn you that deep drops in temperature will give you major problems with you're hatch. My first batch only made it half way because our cabin only has space heaters and they could not keep up with the cold nights. I'm moving my second hatch to warmer acomadations for the hatch along. I live in central Texas so spring is coming around valentines day. You might consider only hatching a few chicks so its easier to winter all of them. They grow really fast. What looked like plenty of room in the start won't look that way when their a few months old.
good plan yeah I only hatch a small batch :)

It arrived!!!

I'll be doing a test run later today to make sure I understand the settings and that it holds temperature easily where I plan to put it.

I have 7 bantam cochin eggs shipping to me...black, blue and splash.

This thread has been so helpful for learning!! Be prepared, I'm going to have a ton of questions as this hatch along goes...
how much was the incubator?

I think it was this thread someone had eggs incubating and they hadnt started hatching yet and had some issue with slightly cooler incubator...anyways just ran across some research that the eggs can be delayed in hatching cuz of lower temps

Im being on my best behavior laugh out loud ron. Insert thumbs up winking smiley faced dude thingy. Hashbrown: no hating

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, my 3 yo grandson lives with us and is all about the eggs. lol That's why I had to get a specific fridge for the eggs and put in my room since my room is off limits. He would even go so far as take eggs out of the kitchen fridge and ask me to put them in the incubator. lol
Awww. That's so cute.

I bet he just loves seeing them hatch.

ok ron, I think I will be your DIY incubator addition to the hatch along.. seeing what I can put together here :)
The only incubators I've ever hatched in are DIY, built by me. They can be great! Happy building!

I hope no one minds that I'm following along and not hatching. I've never done it and this isn't a great time of year for me to do a first hatch. I want to learn from this one and try for the Easter hatch-a-long. So I appreciate all the questions and info being put out there! Thanks and best wishes to all hatchers!

As someone else already said - the more the merrier! Even if you don't hatch along, this thread is wonderful for picking all kinds of great knowledge and ideas.
