You can use a very bright LED flashlight. Look for one with yellow light and lots of lumens.

DIY can be made with a toilette paper roll and tape to connect it to the flashlight.

@Roan, I was just kidding about candling the whole chicken. Checking fertility, I crack the egg and look for the bull's eye -sacrificing that egg. If I have a breed that I've been waiting forever to hatch from or is to expensive to sacrifice an egg by looking for the bull's eye, then I just put it in the incubator.

Lol, that's what I thought but you all looked so serious when you posted the discussion so I started to get a bit confused.

How's are they doing now? You could read about assisted hatching and maybe get some ideas from that...

I haven't heard anything new so I don't know. I hope they make it.

So I have my bator fired up and settling into a constant temp. The egg turner is working properly .Tomorrow is the day for ducks right? I'm as excited to do this hatch as I was the first hatch I did.
